For years the Libertarian Party of Okaloosa County has served as the voice for those whose values are all too often drowned out in todays one-party America; those who believe in individual rights, free markets, and limited government.
The role has been a lonely and unforgiving one. Many county libertarians have unstintingly stood by the party through many lean years, sacrificing their time, money and effort to bring real freedom and prosperity to their neighbors. Their efforts have not been in vain.
It is now becoming clear to most Americans that there are problems in our country that were neither predicted by our elected leaders nor solvable by a government expert only in bribing people with their own money. Libertarians repeatedly warned of these problems before they became obvious.
It is time for the LPOC to double its efforts and come to the forefront in the discussion of how to run Okaloosa County.
We need to tell people that the Republican/Democrat alternative is no alternative at all, but the same outdated methods dressed up in different clothing.
We need to solicit funds to get the message out there, and to make the party a sustainable force for prosperity and justice.
We need to organize in a fashion that allows us to counter the massive money, power and resources the republican and democrat parties take for granted. We need to understand the laws that limit third parties in the pursuit of power.
And we need to find candidates who are tough enough and smart enough to throw stones at Goliath.
Make no mistake, the stakes are high. In our slow creep to socialism (now turned into a trot) we have forgotten that fewer rights and bigger government are no bargain. We have forgotten the danger of taking power away from individuals. We have forgotten what happens when the rule of law turns into the rule of men.
This is what we need to do. Let us appeal to those Libertarians lost in the republican and democrat parties to join us, to donate, and to participate in the fight for a better Okaloosa.
Your friends and neighbors have never needed you more.
